Press and Hold “Alt” and Hit the “F4” button to exit out of a program
Instead of reaching for the mouse to close your current program, just use the Alt+F4 keyboard combination instead. It does the same thing as clicking the big red “X” in the top right hand side, but it is quicker and easier to do (sometimes).
You may have (logically) assumed that the “Esc” key would have been the way to close programs. The “Esc” key on your keyboard doesn’t usually close a program. Instead it typically sends the “cancel” command. This is useful when dealing with pesky dialog boxes and popups that live within a program like Google Chrome.
